Body Composition: Body composition is a factor that can significantly affect athletic performance. Your body composition consists of two components: fat mass and fat free mass. The fat free mass includes muscle, bone, and water, while the fat mass includes all of the fat stores in the body.
Because the fat free mass is used for work efforts, high ratios of fat free mass to fat mass are associated with better athletic performance in most sports. Although a small amount of fat is used as energy in endurance sports, endurance athletes tend to have lower percentages of body fat than non-endurance athletes because body fat limits endurance, speed, and movement through space.
During your body fat analysis at Champions Sports Medicine, seven sites are measured with a skinfold caliper: thigh, chest, scapula, triceps, hip, abdomen, and midaxillary. This information can be used to determine healthy and realistic weight management or fat loss goals.
